Trisha Tan is a Malaysian visual design director and product designer based in Brooklyn, NY.

 
 

She specialises in brand, UI/UX, and design systems—conceptualising, developing, designing, and delivering high impact design experiences and end-to-end product systems. She is skilled in collaborating across design disciplines and leadership, as an individual contributor and as a design manager, providing high fidelity design solutions and operations for design agencies, in-house brands, strategy consultancies, and more.

Most recently Freelance Visual Design Lead at Huge, Associate Design Director, Visual Design at frog NY and currently on the Type Directors Club Advisory Board. She chairs the TDC69 and TDC70 Annual Competition celebrating the Worlds Best Typography, now in it’s 77th year.

Solidarity is action,
not only words

Asians are grappling with heightened anxiety about their personal safety and the bleak sense that no matter how many people are punched, shoved, knifed, hospitalised, and even killed, people in America continue to question whether a wave of hate crimes is really happening.

There’s so much to unpack with the surge of anti-Asian hate and attacks in America, but the hostility isn’t new. I myself, have been a victim and witness to racially-motivated attacks in New York City. I am not okay, and I am finding the words to verbalise the racial trauma I’ve experienced because the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that if we Asians continue to stay silent or look the other way in the face of racism whenever we are attacked or used as a scapegoat, we unconsciously continue this vicious cycle of systemic oppression and helplessness our parents and ancestors have unwillingly passed down to us; thus enabling our oppressors to continue perpetuating their hateful rhetoric onto us. We are no longer staying silent, but is anyone willing to listen and advocate for change?

Exhibition:
Pending Exhibit Showcase

Pending, a public exhibition showcasing the artworks of 20 young international designers from different corners around the world residing in New York City. Trisha’s featured work, A Place Called Here, is a 16x12in interactive artwork with two illustrations on separate layers of paper stacked, creating two different effects with and without the light on. Held at the All Things Project Gallery in the West Village of Manhattan.
